Zaden
cuts an album, pops up back home
Adrian Glover, The Local Scene
Sun-Sentinel, Showtime Friday, October 8, 1999
No matter the genre, a good song always contains a stick-in-your-mind
melody and instrumentation that captures the imagination. Adult
pop songwriter Mark Zaden works the boards in both areas on his
Six Is Fine album. Along the lines of Paula Cole minus the estrogen
laced piano, Zaden's tracks lack the gloss that normally renders
this sort of thing unbearable.
In particular is the number Go, which highlights a withering array
of laid back keys and shuffling vocals. Lyrically, his muse is on
target with intelligent, personal and outward observations that
strive to give listeners more than a slice of background ear candy.
A Fort Lauderdale native, Zaden migrated to various locales across
the country including Vail, Colo., and New York City, where he recorded
this disc with producer Nunzio Signore.
The result is a professional, radio-ready effort reeking of life
experience and hunger.
Ever the working musician, he appears in Fort Lauderdale every Wednesday
at Treasure Trove, every Thursday at Beach Place and every Friday
and Saturday, at Himmarshee Bar & Grille.
Expect big things from this guy, who is stacked with work that will
charm mushy pop fans and a professional go-for-it attitude that
keeps him focused on his craft. The Treaure Trove is at 2933 SE
Fifth St. Call 954-522-8385. Beach Place is at 17 S. Atlantic Blvd.
Call 954-768-9161. The Himmarshee Bar & Grille is at 210 SW Second
St. Call 954-524-1818.
